In this episode of Scammed, we meet two detectives who walk us through two fascinating cases of identity theft. In the first case, convicted identity thief Rachelle Ross describes her crimes. She claims that her drug use was so out of control that it led her into forgery, writing many bad checks and working with countless fraudulent identification materials. At one point, Ross even used the name of a Portland police officer on fraudulent checks. In the second case of stolen and assumed identity theft, criminal Randy Campbell takes on the identity of an innocent man in order to open accounts, take out hefty loans and rent apartments — all in the victim’s name. Both Ross and Campbell’s victims didn’t know they were victims until it was too late. Their identity had already been stolen and their credit had already been shot. This episode of Scammed explores different types of identity theft scams in an effort to help viewers stay safe. It is a helpful reminder for everyone about the importance of being extremely vigilant and watchful at all times, and to immediately recognize and report any suspicious activity.
